Ciao,from Soprabolzano in Northern Italy!
My blog post was a week later than expected due to our creative workshop (more on this later).
I have been very busy enjoying this beautiful village where the vistas take my breath away every moment. If you blink, or look away for a second, the light changes, hence changing the scenery. The greens are ten different shades and the surface of the Dolomites changes as the sunlight changes with the clouds.
We have visited small villages in the area and taken the cable-car down to Bolzano, the beautiful city below.
If you could imagine, it reminds me of Rome and Lucca melded into one. We have eaten more than we planned; it’s hard to say “NO” to the locals here!
We have walked the FreudPromenade,
And we boarded a small train to Collalbo where we stopped for cappuccino and walked the town.
We have taken photos, danced in the rain and enjoyed wonderful local wines, such as Lagrein Reserva and Lafoa Cabernet Sauvignon…’very deep, almost black in colour with violet reflexes, sweet berries and plum fruit intermingled with savoury aromas, herbs, earth, liquorice and leather; supple with ripe and velvety tannins and a rich, fruity mouth-feel on the palate, lingering for an impressive, long finish…’ The description is as romantic as the wine, the food, the hotel and this part of the world.
We have eaten in cafes, met the local restaurant owners and their families, and our favorite waitress at the hotel, Susie. She has made our time here memorable, each meal filled with laughter as she speaks four languages: Czech, German, Italian and English…well a bit anyway, making it all the more fun.
In between all this, we have been busy learning about travel-writing and how to take dazzling photos and videos. And I have learned to paint! I’m not bad for a beginner…of course our instructors are some of the best, so how could I be any less?
Time to run as we are off to some little mountain village up in the alps where the flowers are brilliant with color!
